Landscaping the Scituate Roundabout

We are happy to report, we have started to landscape the roundabout in Scituate.  In early November, Kennedy’s with the help of Herzog Landscaping, has begun planting the roundabout with an array of plant material.  Scott Herzog donated his own time to spread the compost, which was donated by Lions Head Organics of Cohasset.  Herzog’s crew then helped us install some plants.  The planting is far from complete, but it is a start.  So far Ruby Ribbons Switch Grass, Threadleaf Blue Star and a few Baptisia australis have been installed.  All three are perennials that come back each spring and are native to North America.  Also planted was some Catmint called ‘Walker’s Low’, another long blooming perennial that will add color to the space with it’s masses of beautiful blue flowers.  Another perennial used to date is Sedum Autumn Joy that provides succulent green foliage all summer and red flowers in fall.  More plants including annuals that bloom all summer will be planted spring 2013.

Jessica Bartlett of Boston.com is following our progress.
